Racing fans can head to Ascot, a short drive from Windsor. Royal Ascot takes place every year and attracts plenty of famous faces, while other race days through the year offer a more relaxed outing. With so much close by, it is worth planning a full weekend rather than a single day.

Legoland celebrates a toy with remarkable engineering behind it. Around 3,700 different bricks and elements are made, and the moulds that produce them are accurate to within the width of a single hair, which is why every piece clicks together without gaps. A single brick can bear the weight of about 375,000 others stacked on top before it starts to give way.
The basic design has barely changed over the decades, so bricks from the late 1950s still connect with modern sets. Production takes place in Denmark, Hungary and the Czech Republic before the sets are shipped around the world.
For many years the sets focused on city building. The first licensed range, based on Star Wars, arrived in 1999, and many licensed themes have followed since. Fans can also put forward their own ideas for new sets, and a design that gathers enough public support may be considered for production.
