Additions to the value of your home can be a worthwhile investment when you are ready to sell and move up to your dream house. It is important to maximise the value of your current home and to consider all options, from cosmetic improvements to structural repairs. Before you begin renovating the property, fix any structural problems. You won’t be able to hide them for very long from a home appraiser. The following problems need to be addressed:

  • Unstable chimney
  • Cracks in the walls
  • Roof tiles missing
  • Rising damp
  • Roof leakage
  • Roof timbers and joists that are rotten

While these repairs may be costly and time-consuming, they are necessary to add value.

A shiny, clean, and new kitchen will be a big selling point. Think about the shape and location of your kitchen before replacing it. You may want to move the room structurally, or simply give it a new look. With little effort and cost, most kitchens can benefit from a new lease of life. You may only need to replace the cupboard doors and not the whole unit.

Bathrooms: Just like in the kitchen, they should be clean and hygienic, have adequate lighting, and be painted with neutral shades. At least one bathroom should have a shower. Make the room as luxurious and comfortable as you can.
