Have You Thought About Oak Beams?

Fancy a share?

Oak beams, like the ones from Timberpride have been a favourite wood for building homes for many years. They are strong, beautiful and come in a wide variety of color tones. Oak trees are usually harvested while they are still at least 80 years old and are able to be turned into many elegant architectural features that add a lot of character to a home. There are currently three varieties of oak beams out there, namely, red oak beams, green oak beams and recycled oak beams.

Red Oak Beams – These are the most popular ones because of the fact that they tend to be the most durable, but also because they have a very classic look to them. These are also some of the most expensive types of timbers available, so if you’re looking for something with class and classiness at the same time then these might not be the right choice for you. Oak can usually be found in Eastern Europe, North America, and definitely the UK, Because it is naturally resistant to insects, the Red Oak beam can last for decades without treatment.

Green Oak Beams – These are the cheaper varieties of wood that are often used for constructing flooring. However, they are more susceptible to the dreaded insect referred to as rot, which attacks and slowly destroys the wood over time. If you’re hoping to protect your investment from this pest, consider using treated wood or simply using an oak beam with a lower density core.
